Much before you make up your mind, here’s what you need to know about Dental Crowns:
The tooth crown cost primarily depends on the material used and the type of crown you would choose.
In other words, you can choose from multiple options available.
So the first step always is to choose what’s best for you.
In general, the choice of a crown depends on factors like:
- Which tooth needs a crown?
- Is it the front tooth or the back one?
- We recommend all-ceramic or metal-free crowns for the front teeth as they are always aesthetically pleasing.
- And if you have parafunctional habits, the crown may chip or break. Hence we recommend a robust crown variant.
- And the other factors could be:
- The technical difficulties in your case
- The size of the restoration/filling
Most importantly, the expertise of the Dental practitioner and the lab in which the crown is fabricated is essential, but that’s a given fact when you visit a reputable clinic.
So before you can choose a Crown and estimate the cost of it, you need to understand what it is, how it can protect your tooth, and, therefore, the quality you prefer.
As the name suggests, a Crown is simply a cap covering the tooth. It helps to make you look and feel better.
Firstly, it restores a tooth to its function.
Secondly, it also helps in the cosmetic correction of certain teeth so that you may look and smile better.
Therefore, in technical terms, a Crown is a fixed treatment method to restore the function and appearance of a damaged tooth and can make the tooth stronger.
It is cemented onto the tooth and does not need to be taken out to clean.
8 Reasons why you would need a crown at all:
1. Protect a weakened tooth caused by a large cavity or decay
2. To restore a broken or worn down tooth.
3. Support a tooth which has a large filling.
4. Hold a dental bridge.
5. Cover a dental implant.
6. Correct any mal-aligned tooth.
7. Cosmetic modification.
8. To cover root canal treated tooth.
Wide varieties of crowns are available nowadays.
Most importantly, there are just four types of crowns that you should know about:
1) All-Ceramic (Metal-free) / Zirconia Crowns:
Metal-free crowns are stunning crowns with superior aesthetics.
They look so natural that it becomes difficult to distinguish between a crown and a tooth.
Metal-free crowns mimic the colour and lustre of the natural tooth and look lifelike because they don’t contain metal.
These crowns produce amazingly lifelike results unmatched by any other type of crown.
These are durable with high strength and can last very long.
For this reason, many of our patients opt for these crowns.
Thus, All ceramic crown cost becomes less important as the life it brings to your natural tooth is incomparable.
Besides, they are biocompatible and are an excellent option if you are allergic to metal.
All-ceramic tooth crown cost range starts at – INR 10,000 & upwards, with a warranty ranging from 5 to 20 years.
2) Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns (or PFM):
These crowns are made of both porcelain and metal.
PFM crowns have metal inside and tooth-coloured porcelain outside. The top coating of the crown is tooth-coloured porcelain supported by a metal framework inside.
Furthermore, they have pleasing aesthetics, have high strength, can last for many years, and are reasonably priced.
But PFM crowns are not as natural or lifelike as metal-free crowns.
To clarify, they can cast a black hue/ shadow between the crown and the tooth because of the metal inside.
For this reason, these crowns are best suited for back teeth.
PFM Tooth Crown costs approx. INR 6000
Tooth Crown costs (CAD-CAM) are INR 8000 & upwards, with a 5 to 15 years warranty.
3) Metal Crowns:
These crowns are made of biocompatible metals like nickel and chromium.
Therefore, metal crowns have tremendous strength and can last long without chipping or breaking.
Their most significant disadvantage is the metallic colour.
Because of this reason, they are only used for back teeth.
However, these crowns are not commonly used in practice these days.
Metal Tooth Crown usually costs approx. INR 4000
4) Gold Crowns:
Gold crowns have been used in dentistry for more than 4000 yrs. But their most significant disadvantage is the colour, and that’s why it is not a popular choice.
Some metals are combined with gold to increase their strength.
Therefore, they don’t break or chip. They are durable and can last for many years.
The cost of such Gold Crowns depends primarily on the prevailing Gold rate.
Which crown best suits your needs?
Regarding capping teeth, the crown options available may completely confuse you.
It may become difficult to decide which crown is best for you. Hence, Doctor’s recommendation always helps.
With the newer innovative materials in the market, specific crowns create a more natural appearance and are equally long-lasting.
But again, consult a Doctor, and you will have all the correct answers.
To conclude, the Tooth Crown cost mostly depends on the material used to fabricate it and the expertise and experience of the dentist.
Secondly, it also depends significantly on the dental laboratory, as a high-quality laboratory produces the best results and maintains excellent standards.
For this reason, we partner with the best dental laboratories in India and use the best brands available globally.
Choosing the best brands and labs ensures that we give you the best results without compromise.
To summarize, the Tooth Crown Costs are as follows:
Metal-Free/All-Ceramic Crowns in the range of about INR 10,000 and upwards (with a warranty of about 5 years to 20 years)
Porcelain fused to Metal (PFM) ranges around INR 6000
PFM (CAD-CAM) are in the range of approx INR 8000 & upwards (with a warranty of about 5 years to 10 years)
And Metal Crowns are approx INR 4000.
In the end, the Gold Crowns primarily depend on the prevailing rate of Gold.
Can a crown be made for your missing tooth?
Getting a crown made for your missing tooth is not recommended
But, If you want a permanent solution to your missing tooth, then a Dental Implant or a Dental Bridge is the best choice.
What should you know about a Dental Bridge?
Dental Bridges bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
A bridge primarily consists of crowns on your natural teeth with one or more false teeth to replace your missing tooth/teeth in between.
A natural tooth or implant is used as an anchor to support the bridge.
Therefore, they are solid and reliable and look like your natural teeth.
It is a fixed treatment method and does not have to be brought out to clean.
Why would you need a Dental Bridge?
Here are 6 reasons why you may need a Dental Bridge:
- Fill a gap created by one or more missing teeth.
- To eat your food properly.
- Speak clearly and confidently
- Restore your smile
- Maintain the shape of your face.
- Prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting and moving out of their position.
Dental bridges and crowns are made from the same material. Dental bridges can also use a combination of materials.
However, the most significant disadvantage of a Dental Bridge is the reduction of natural teeth used to support the bridge.
An adequate amount of tooth structure must be removed for the crown to be mounted on the tooth structure.
Hence, this causes a significant loss of healthy tooth structure, weakening a tooth and reducing its longevity.
In addition, this tooth reduction may also cause sensitivity or pain and may require Root Canal Treatments.
As a result, for this reason, Dental Implants are a more suitable and lifelong solution. Read more.
